The History of Central Plains Cement Company
0ver 100 Years of Dedication and Excellence
The cement plant in Sugar Creek, Missouri (adjacent to Kansas City) was opened in 1905. It was initially known as the Missouri Portland Cement quarry and cement plant.
It first opened as Dewey Portland Cement Plant in 1961
Central Plains Cement Company was officially established in December 2012 following the acquisition of certain Lafarge North America cement assets by Eagle Materials Inc., a leading U.S. manufacturer of heavy construction products and light building materials. These assets included cement plants in Sugar Creek, Missouri (near Kansas City) and Tulsa, Oklahoma — both with strong industrial legacies dating back decades.
With plants strategically located in the central United States, the company has efficiently served markets across Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and beyond. Their access to major transportation networks (road, rail, and river) has been key to their regional success.
Central Plains Cement is known for producing high-quality Portland and masonry cements, supporting a wide range of construction projects — from major infrastructure to residential developments.
In line with broader industry trends, the company has invested in environmentally responsible production methods, including emissions reductions and improved energy efficiency at its plants.
Today, Central Plains Cement Company is a vital part of Eagle Materials’ Heavy Materials sector and remains a trusted supplier for major infrastructure, commercial, and residential projects across the central United States.
